Renewables & Water Technology

EHL Group is driving innovation in sustainability by developing technologies that reduce emissions, generate electricity and water from renewable sources, improve fuel efficiency, and support electrification. Our locally engineered systems—including ocean energy systems, electric drivetrains, low-emission engines, and recyclable components—are helping industries meet global environmental targets while enhancing safety and performance.

Powering the Future of Ocean Energy

EHL Group is proud to be the key engineering, technology, and design partner behind the Azura systems — an innovative platform unlocking the power of ocean to produce clean energy and fresh water for a sustainable future.

Our story with Azura began in 2010, when EHL acquired core intellectual property from Callaghan Engineering. That moment marked the start of Azura’s journey from concept to commercialization — and the beginning of a long-term partnership built on world-class engineering and shared vision.

Innovation from New Zealand to the World

Headquartered in New Plymouth, New Zealand, EHL Group combines deep expertise in hydraulics, marine energy systems, and control engineering. Our team leads the design, development, and advancement of Azura’s proprietary ocean energy technology, bringing proven engineering excellence to every stage of the process.

Today, Azura operates through two closely connected entities:

  • Azura Wave Power (New Zealand) — advancing the core ocean energy conversion technology.
  • Azura Ocean Technology (Australia) — scaling commercialisation across the growing Blue Economy.

Together, they form a unified global platform – powered by EHL’s engineering leadership – driving innovation in ocean-based renewable energy.

Turning the Ocean’s Potential Energy into Power and Fresh Water

At the heart of the Azura system is the Wave Energy Converter (WEC) — a unique device that harnesses the natural motion of ocean waves combined with the subsurface heave to generate low-carbon electricity and desalinated seawater. Much like an engine converts fuel into motion, Azura’s WEC transforms kinetic wave energy into usable power at sea.

This pioneering technology has been independently validated by the U.S. Department of Energy, confirming its capability, reliability, and potential to transform how we source renewable energy.

Flexible, Scalable, and Future-Focused

A key advantage of the Azura platform is its modular design, allowing seamless integration with energy storage or reverse osmosis desalination units. This flexibility means Azura can be tailored to meet community, commercial, and industrial energy needs — all while helping reduce global carbon emissions.

With EHL Group’s engineering and innovation at its core, the Azura system continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in marine renewable energy — turning the untapped potential of the ocean into practical, positive change for our planet.
