EHL Australia Maritime Team – Davit Service

EHL Group Australia Maritime team were recently called upon to rectify a number of issues with the davits on an Oyster 72 yacht circumnavigating the world and having completed a journey to Antarctica. These issues included cracking of the base plate welds on the rear davits, hydraulic hosing under stress, and general wear and tear on the tender / life raft deployment system. EHL Group can undertake all hydraulic  system design & maintenance, electrical,  compressed air, and other requirements on most vessels both private and commercial.

Dimensions:

  • Length overall (including pulpit) – 22.77 m (74’9″)
  • Length of hull – 22.10 m (72’6″)
  • Length of waterline  – 19.75 m (64’9″)
  • Beam – 5.85 m (19’2.5″)

EHL Work Undertaken:

  • Welds repaired and double braced with inner patch supports welded into the inside of the skin
  • All Davits were stripped apart and Hydraulics serviced
  • Replaced all Hydraulic hoses feeding two internal Hydraulic cylinders per Davit – One to move the winch in and out the boom, the second cylinder moved a guard/support in and out and the third section of hydraulics was a Hydraulic brake on the winch raise and lower and the hydraulic motor which drives the winch drum up and down
  • The winch motor (Hydraulic and the  winch rope drums) run along a T-Bar inside the davit using linear bearings mounted onto the bottom of the carriage which the motor and winch spool is mounted on to
  • Tested and checked all cylinders
  • Tested and checked both brakes and both winch motors
  • Replaced all hoses
  • Full Hydraulic function test, set up and commissioning
  • Re assembled and refitted to the Yacht
