Davits & Crane Limit Project

As part of ongoing maritime maintenance work, EHL recently undertook servicing of the Davits and a complete upgrade of the Crane Limits over the Christmas / New Years break as part of a multitude of varied new installation and maintenance projects. No downtime for this team! Whilst the vessel was in port, EHL’s Australian team have been working through to ensure completion and full testing has been undertaken before the vessel puts to sea again.

This part of the project included

Davit Servicing

  • Change out oil in gearboxes
  • Inspect Davit for serviceability
  • Replace Bearings seals
  • Hydraulic connections
  • General operation

Crane Limits Upgrade

  • Remove old Hydraulic Cam operated valves as they were badly corroded
  • Install and test new Hydraulic cam operated valves
    • Valves were deconstructed and marinized, ie: the plunger shafts, rollers and strikers were removed, and all new parts made by EHL out of 316 stainless steel to be non-corrosive.

This will ensure these vital components will provide reliable operation within the demanding sea and environmental conditions of a vessel that moves between the tropical north and Antarctica

This is very similar to work undertaken on the two Ice breaking vessels servicing Antarctica.
